However, it still creates an exciting 10 episode season for teens and up. I would, however, have enjoyed the series more if it was not the abbies, but maybe a government cover up or a murder cover up. The 'abbies' eat deer intestines, human bodies (you see the organs and skin being ripped off, and you hear screams). The abberations, the result of thousands of years of evolution, are shown eating and grotesquely killing the residents of Wayward Pines, which are revealed to be the last of humanity, unbeknowestly being in the town thousands of years in the future. There are some executions, but *SPOILERS* the real violence begins when the secret of the town is revealed in the fifth episode. There is, however, a generous amount of blood and gore. Only ocassional mild ones, as I have said. It is usually limited to 'hell' and 'damn', with the occasional 'ass' and 'b-ch'. Having read the book, it is quite humorous to look at the amount of profanity the book has to the amount that television guidelines allow in this series. This show is a fantastic render of the Wayward Pines series written by Blake Crouch. I believe that 14 and up should be just fine. The main reason to be sceptical if your child can watch this show or not is because of the gore/violence. If I remember correctly, there is some language, but is quite tame and isn't used frequently. The sexual content in this show is kept to a good minimum. A tween/teenage girl also has her first period, and is frightened because she doesn't want to be a mother at the age that she is. It doesn't progress to anything, however (and I won't say why, because *spoilers*). A major goal of the town is to 'procreate,' as its population is small, and a (teenage) boy and girl are shown being put into a 'procreation room,' to, well, make babies. In one episode in season 2, a surgery is quickly shown in somewhat bloody detail (as a 14 year old, I could handle it, but I do have a strong stomach for such things). There is blood, there are gunshots, stabbing, etc, all in self defence. With these creatures comes a dark and sinister undertone, and episodes can get very intense as the citizens of Wayward Pines try to escape from the Abbies.

There is a fair amount of gore, once (spoilers) the Abbies are introduced from outside the town's electrice fence as mutants who eat humans. It is, however, rated TV 14+ for a reason. The second season brings even more depth to this spooky town. This show tells the story of Ethan Burke, a main character with good intentions, who finds himself in a strange town after a supposed car wreck and, after suspecting that something may be a little off, begins to investigate the origins of where he is.

If you're looking for a quick thriller, Wayward Pines is perfect.
